Beebris 2.71 updated documentation........
Hi freaks! Law here (that's The Law/BBC, remember?) - This folder
contains a screen from the totally unfinished Total Apathy Megademo
that was supposed to be released by the BBC some years ago. As it
looks more and more likely that this demo will never see the light
of day I have decided to give the world..........
BEEBRIS... Version 2.71ish
The first release of this game was (much to my embarassment) the
assembled version of the wrong source file, and contained an annoying
little bug where the ramdom blocks in the arcade mode caused entire
lines of blocks to turn yellow!!!
I have also changed the tracker player from NoiseTracker (by the
Empire) to ProTracker (by Griff of Inner Circle) because this sounded
sooooooo(!) much better.
When clicked on you will be presented with the title picture and a
rather wicked SoundTracker module (written by Floyd) - This picture
will give you the rundown on the game.
The samples used in the game were taken from the Lynx version of
Klax (Which is well good and if you have a Lynx then I suggest you
go and get this game!) I hope Atari/Tengen don't mind.
Also, I hope Mirrorsoft don't object to the blatent ripoff of their
game (but their version WAS crap!)
This version was coded because there does not exist a full version of
the arcade version of Tetris on the ST (as far as I know). I also decided
to add a few more things (Try the Beebris+/Arcade+ options)
Anyway, if Total Apathy ever does appear then this game will feature on
that disk.......
A Description of the various modes/functions will now follow:-
Functions

At the start of the game the following keys function as...
'1' - Select game type...... Beebris
'2' - Select game type...... Beebris+

'+' - Increment the level number for the game type (on keypad)
'-' - Decrement the level number for the game type (on keypad)
'Q' - Quit!. This will return you to the desktop.

'P' - Puase.
This does just what it says.

This will abore the current game.
'Q' - Quit!.
This will not return you to the desktop as advertised.
It will instead return you to the main menu.
Cursor keys.
These control the rotation, movement and drop
for the pieces under user control.
Modes
=====
*Note: All games use the 'cement' method for block dropping, ie
the blocks will 'slide' horizontally before settling into
place in the well.
BEEBRIS
=======
This is a standard version of the game. Points are scored for
making complete horizontal lines of blocks in the well. The higher
the block was 'quick dropped' (by pulling down on the stick) the
more points you will score.
Every ten lines the level number will increase (you will hear a
musical ditty to denote this). As the levels get higher the speed of
the game will increase. If the level gets quite a bit higher you will
notice the blocks starting off from a lower position in the well.
BEEBRIS+
========
This is the same as above except that I have added some new shapes
to the game, making it quite a bit harder to play.
Also, the one by one block is not a normal block, it is a BOMB(!!)
The line that this block settles on will be erased and all above it
will move down one line (You will also get awarded a line made, making
your lines-to-next-level decrease)
ARCADE
======
This is SIMILAR to the arcade version of beebris (I'm a student who
can't afford to play the game all the time. It costs too much). Basically
there are four different types of levels....
(1) - Normal level.
The object here is to make 10 lines. The rules are as for
Beebis mode.
(2) - Progressive Advances.
As for (1) except that every now and again the computer
will move all the blocks in the well up one line and will
insert a random line in at the bottom.
(3) - Random Blocks.
As for (1) except that every now and again the computer
will insert a new block into the well at a random
position.
(4) - Pre-Build Well.
As for (1) except that the well will contain a pre-
selected pattern of blocks to start the level off with.
ARCADE+
=======
This is as above, but also contains all the features implemented
in the BEEBRIS+ mode. If you can beat this at level 40 then you will
gain my undying respect.......
Troubleshooting!
================
This game has not been tested on a 512k 1.09 TOS. If it fails to
load (due to a lack of memory) then please create an AUTO folder on
a fresh disk and copy the BEEBRIS.TOS file into it, then rename the
.TOS file to BEEBRIS.PRG, and autoload from there. If you give a
copy of this game to anyone (and I hope it spreads far and wide) then
please ensure that it is this version, as this doc will be present.
And Finally(!)
